What is a fire safety measure?

Detection system

Fire safety measures are actions, devices, or systems put in place to prevent fires or reduce the harm they can cause. A detection system fits this role because its main purpose is to identify a fire early and trigger a response—alerting occupants and coordinating a rapid reaction. That early warning is what allows people to evacuate sooner and responders to act sooner, which is central to safety.

An alarm is a component within the detection system that warns people, but it doesn’t by itself cover the whole protective function. A fire extinguisher is for actively suppressing a small fire once it has started—useful, but reactive rather than preventative. An emergency exit sign helps people find their way out during an evacuation, improving safe egress, but it doesn’t detect or warn about a fire.
